Wish I wrote that - 3

When I started this series, I never thought I would be updating it this often. But it??s really interesting to see all the different posts that really slap me side the head. Here are some more.

The Blog:
In Over Your Head

The Post:
Your whole life on record

The Line:
??These days, I live my life as if a camera is always on me. It means honesty is always on my mind, because anything could potentially come back later.?

Pretty powerful. And smart too. If only the leaders of some companies thought about their brands the same way, they wouldn??t run into the trouble they??re getting themselves into. Think KFC/Taco Bell. Or Best Buy. Or Kohls.

The Blog:
MP Daily Fix: Ted Mininni

The Post:
The Over-Use of ‘Innovation’

The Line:
??The problem is that so many companies are hyping the ??innovation factor? (vis-à-vis their products and services) that it??s become banal. While many companies do, in fact, have innovation-based cultures, many others are overstating this to an increasingly skeptical, jaded consumer.?

This post ?? and this highlighted thought in particular ?? inspired my ??Tell + Sell lines to retire? post. As I commented there, ??Overused, in my opinion, generally leads to closed ears and minds.?

?

The Blog:
All things workplace

The Post:
Explain Less, Engage More, Communicate Better

The Line:
??The biggest learning challenge is not to get people to speak. It’s getting them to be silent. And to do it at the right moment.?

The Bonus Line:
??Yet engagement, by definition, is a joint activity. Trying to dazzle your audience with everything you know disengages them, makes you the center of attention, and makes you responsible for everything that happens (or doesn’t). Think about that.?

Steve makes a great point here that applies well to social media. Listening is where to start if you??re hoping to engage consumers. When the moment is right, let them know you??re there and that you hear what they??re saying. Embrace their thoughts, incorporate them where it makes most sense and you??re on your way to engagement.

That??s it, that??s all for now.
