If you didn??t catch Kris??s post titled, ??Global Marketing Community?, skip over to it for two minutes and come back. I??ll wait here.
Here??s the line that struck me the most, you??ll find it at the very end of his post:
??? wouldn??t it be fantastic if eventually we find a time and a place we could all meet up face to face and have a sort of Marketing Mashup? Sounds good to me ;)?
Well, Kris, your wish is coming true. A social event for marketing bloggers is born. Thanks to a special tree, Drew and CK had the time to work on the idea last weekend.
Late Wednesday afternoon, CK ran the idea by me, giving me a sneak peak at today??s post over at her site:
??Sure, a lot of you folks are meeting each other at conferences. But too many times you only get to really talk during breaks and for a few hours over dinner. Yet I’m willing to bet a pretty penny that it’s those stolen moments where you finally get to hang out with someone you’ve wanted to meet for so long that are among the most memorable.
But what if those stolen moments were all that an event were centered around?
What if we were all to meet once a year in a designated place…just to be in the same place…at the same time??
My response: Un-$#!$%&@??believable idea!
We spoke later on and I can tell you this ?? this event is going to happen. She??s that committed. And, this community being what it is, something like this has got to happen. All that??s needed is your help. The first step is to gauge the community’s interest, and for that, you can do two things:
1) Head over here to answer a few short questions. (It??ll take you all of a minute or two.)
2) Steal the graphic (I can email you three formats of it), spread the word and start encouraging others to answer the survey as well.
The more, the merrier. And everyone??s invited.
On a personal level, I can tell you that I??ve never experienced anything like the immediate comfort I felt when I walked into Flute for the Manhattan Blogger Meetup a few months back. Meeting CK, David and Valeria for the first time after book clubbing together was like meeting up with old school buddies. Getting to meet Toby, C.B. and Matt was icing on the cake. And everything was so comfortable.
In many ways, I??m still buzzing about it.
Imagine the buzz you’ll get from something like this.

Oh Kris, Philippe, Luc, Gavin and Arun will be there. I’m going on camera and crying if not.
You read it here. On camera. CRYING. I sure hope I don’t have to do that. But that I will if that’s what it takes.
And for the record you did curse when you heard the idea (he said “Un-Fu*king Believable!”).
The question is, Mark: what committee will you head up? Becuz everyone will play a pivotal role in OUR event and you had some mighty clever ideas when we spoke (but I’ll let YOU discuss those as those epiphanies are yours).
I only hate it can’t be until ‘08! And I’ve met Mark and he is even more smart and more handsome in person. And now everyone else gets to meet you, too. Oh, and i told Kris you’ll try to be here in July when he flies over from Belgium to the Big Apple.

I’ve got a video camera that has excellent picture quality, CK. So count me in as a videographer.
All the rest, we’ll talk about. I’m definitely in on a committee, all that to be figured out as the survey results roll in.
CK, Drew, you two are THE BOMB!

I say this a great, great idea!
(and I would hate myself to make CK cry)

No one wants to see her cry. But at least make her sweat a little, would you, Philippe?
;-)

And if the FIRST time I go to video I have to cry that will be a sin. But I’ll f*ckin’ do it for this community.
But I’d rather cry happy tears ;-). You can record those, too.

Thanks for the nice mention Mark, of course I got to be there… the whole Belgian Connection needs to be there ;)
What can I say, the ‘marketing mash-up’ is going to happen… cool!

You bring the chocolate, I’ll bring the maple syrup!

Mark,
It’s going to be a party and a half! Thanks so much for being our first “official” volunteer and for helping spread the word. I can’t wait to see where we decide to have it.
Are you pulling for a specific city? I’d go to Toledo (sorry to anyone who loves Toledo) to hang with you guys for the weekend!
Drew

Mark,
Thanks for relaying this extra-ordinary idea. The Belgian Connection will be there, yes Kris!
: )

Drew: Toledo, home of the Mud Hens, eh? Maybe I’ll ask Klinger if I could borrow his jersey. Actually, my vote goes to NYC ?? magic seems to happen there, and I’m sure this would keep that going.
Luc: Nice work on the graphic, glad to hear that the Belgian Connection will be there!

A lot of people are liking NYC…so funny that you’d think I’d pull for my town but I’m pulling for Vegas (I can’t guarantee NYC will be warm in April. I can guarantee NYC will be COLD in Feb.)
Happy to say it appears we’ve got the trans-continentals…now we just need to find out about the Americans (whom I sure will be there).
June 3rd, 2007 at 8:07 am
Nah, I knew you were aiming for Vegas, CK. Never had a doubt. BTW, looking forward to meeting you in July when Kris comes to NYC!
June 3rd, 2007 at 8:48 pm
I’m pulling for NYC in April. I love showing off my town and sharing it with others.
A big meetup would create the high five of us recently had times 10 or 20 or more. Mark, I know you felt it when some of us met on a Friday night back in March.
June 4th, 2007 at 7:30 am
Certainly did, David. Just had a thought though ?? have to watch out for Passover conflicts in April. Just checked, Passover starts April 20, so we should be safe.

[…] Blogger Social ‘08: I got the rundown on Blogger Social ‘08 from CK’s & Mark Goren’s blog posts. What an excellent idea… I’ve just completed the survey & will blog about this soon. I’m excited at the whole prospect & can’t wait to meet all my blogger-friends & have a rockin’ time. After all, it’s not about social media, it’s about being social!!! […]
