Was discussing the 2% RSS adoption rate with Adele, a friend who is Director of Research at CBS. Her reply:
??I think several people use RSS and don’t realize they are using it. All those who use MY Yahoo! (and similar types of sites) are in essence using RSS and I would bet several of them would say they don??t.?
You know what? She’s right.
When I asked a buddy if he subscribed to this blog, he told me no, but that he added it to his Google homepage. Isn??t that really the same thing?
So, we have three types of people who are surfing the web:
1. People who have no idea about RSS
2. People who are using it and have no idea they are
3. People who knowingly use it
What type of person are you? If you??re a #3, don??t assume your employees are as well. Don??t assume your clients are #3s either. If you are a #3, your job is to ensure that more #1s and #2s become #3s.
If you??re a #1 or #2, seek out a #3. Now. Do some research and become aware of all the benefits RSS can bring to your organization. Or think about this post by master blogger Robert Scoble. Here??s a teaser:
??Sorry, if you do a marketing site and you don’t have an RSS feed today you should be fired. I’ll say it again. You should be fired if you do a marketing site without an RSS feed.?
Scoble wrote that two years ago. Where are you today?
